Outdoor Softball Rules
No Vulgar Language will be tolerated
First incident will result in an out being called (i.e. if vulgar language is used while at bat, the next hitter will be called out. If there are 3 outs or if vulgar language is used in the field an out will be recorded for the first hitter of the next inning). The second incident will result in an immediate ejection.
*Please understand that this rule is applied based on occurrences per team, not per player.
Complex Rules:
It is against Connecticut State Law to Consume Alcoholic Beverages in the Parking Lot
If any team member is caught consuming an alcoholic beverage in the parking lot or dugout his team will lose and must repay its forfeit fee before they are allowed to play again
Any player caught with any alcoholic beverage not purchased at the Connecticut Sportsplex will be immediately ejected from the park and suspended for at least one game. The team will be fined $50 and lose its forfeit fee for a total fine of $100. The $50 forfeit fee must be repaid before the team will be allowed to play again
No batting balls into fences at any time
No Outside Food or Drink is allowed in the park or in the parking lot at any time
No smoking or alcoholic beverages allowed in dugouts or on playing fields at any time
No Food or beverages allowed on the playing fields at any time
No Tailgating Allowed at any time
No Pets of Any Kind Allowed at any time
No Coolers of Any Size Allowed at any time
No Rollerblades or Skateboards Allowed at any time
Please understand that the above policies will be strictly enforced at all times
Rules of Play:
Rules of play will adhere to the ASA rule book with exception of the following:
Start Count: 1 ball, 1 strike
All pitched balls must have an arc of 6’ to 10’ or it will be ruled a ball, with exception of Tuesday C league(USSSA pitching rules, by prior agreement)
Umpires will call out illegal pitches
Mats will be used for all “E”, Rec, and Co-Ed Leagues – If a pitch hits the mat and/or the plate and it is within the legal arc height then the pitch will be ruled a strike
There is a 1:15 time limit for all games. A new inning cannot be started after 1:05 has elapsed
3-strike foul rule in effect, no courtesy foul ball allowed
A game will end after the home team has batted and either team is ahead by 20 runs after 3 innings, 15 runs after 4 innings, or 10 runs after 5 innings
Each team is allowed to designate runners for up to 2 players per game
The courtesy runner must be the player who made the last batted out
Unintentional entry into outfield dead ball area is a one base award. If intentional as judged by umpire, it will be a two base award
All equipment must be kept in the dugout
All players must remain in the dugout (One man up, one man on deck only)
Umpires are responsible for turning in scorecards from each game
No batting or practices on the infield
Teams playing are responsible for providing balls/retrieving foul balls
Any discussion with an umpire must be through the team captain/designated player only. Any non-designated player discussing rulings will be subjected to immediate ejection
Home Runs:
“C”: Allowed 2 homeruns then progressive
“D”: Allowed 1 homerun then progressive
“E”, Rec, and Co-Ed: 0 homeruns per game. Any homerun will result in an out
Bats:
ASA bat restrictions will be enforced along with the following:
“E”, Rec, and Co-Ed League: No Composite Bats or PST’s Allowed
Safety:
Please keep all children out of the dugout area
Dangerous bats will be removed from the game at any time (Umpire's judgment)
Jewelry must not be exposed. It must be removed/tucked, earrings taped or removed
NO metal spikes allowed
Throwing a bat is an immediate ejection
Administration:
Each team supplies one ball. CSP will provide each team a supply of balls at first game
Umpire fee is $22 per team for “E”, “Rec,” and “Co-Ed” games
Umpire Fee is $27 per team for “B”, “C”, and “D” games
